Paradero Todos Santos

OVERVIEW

At the end of a dusty country road in Todos Santos, Mexico sits Paradero; a 32-room boutique hotel described as a “high design landscaping project with luxurious suites”.  A series of brutalist-inspired structures designed in sunbaked, desert hues blend seamlessly with the sandy natural surroundings, letting the property’s 100,000 square foot botanical garden shine. Guests can expect a multi-sensory experience with sanctuary-like interiors flowing into outdoor seating areas surrounded by the cactus-studded desert and farmland. There’s a below ground spa rooted in ancient Mexican healing traditions, a half moon shaped pool overlooking the high-desert mountains and an open kitchen and communal dining experience showcasing the best of the region’s organic and sustainable ingredients.

WHY WE LOVE IT

At Paradero, the fundamental belief is that extraordinary outdoor experiences go hand-in-hand with sustainability, community development and conservation. By immersing guests in nature, Paradero instills reverence towards the land and by employing local guides, there is generations worth of knowledge and storytelling. Guests are encouraged to try a myriad of guided experiences ranging from surfing, mountain biking, learning to farm and gastronomic adventures like a Baja taco tour (yes, please). It comes as no surprise that authentic experiences lie at the heart of the Paradero lifestyle—the hotel has tapped the expertise of Jesus Parrilla (ex-CEO of South American-based adventure travel company, explora) who serves as a strategic advisor. Rates include breakfast and one daily experience.

SUSTAINABILITY

Committed to leaving the world better than they found it, Paradero Hotels employs an intuitive approach to sustainability, from the design and construction of the hotel through ongoing operations. The property was deliberately built on a plot of land that was previously farmed (and had not been cultivated for many years) and owners partnered with a team of architects, interior and landscape designers to incorporate sustainability into every aspect of the project—from the way the guestrooms are oriented in nature, mitigating the harsh effects of the sun and encouraging natural air flow throughout the space, to the reproduction of indigenous species in the 100,000 square foot botanical garden. Additionally, guests will not find single-use plastics or non-biodegradable products in the hotel.

COMMUNITY

Guests are encouraged to inhabit the Todos Santos lifestyle, partaking in unique experiences that are aligned with the culture, values, and heritage of Mexico. From day one, the hotel has understood the importance of having the full support of the community, providing meaningful employment and growth opportunities as well as facilitating impactful collaborations such as farming initiatives and recycling programs with locals.

LOCATION

Roughly a one hour drive north from San Jose del Cabo, Paradero can be found at the end of a country road, set on a 5.5-acre plot of land in Todos Santos on Mexico’s Baja California Sur.
